Animals are our Friends Bowl Workshop

Be inspired by your favourite animal friend and create your very own kiln-fired, handmade, lovely bowl! That is what you will do in this wonderful clay workshop! Ages 6 to Adult.

Create a beautiful hand-sculpted bowl made of earthenware clay.

Handbuild, design and create this cute bowl from a fresh slab of clay and then use professional glazes to add color and character.

The tradition of pottery making is really important to us. You, the artist, handbuild your unique clay piece from scratch at our studios. We focus on the process of making pottery, which takes time. In our clay workshops, we do not paint on pre-designed, factory-made, ceramic molds.

This workshop is suitable for both adults and family. The workshop is for ages 6 to adult. Ages 6 to 12 must be accompanied by a registered adult.

How The Workshop Works

Step 1: Learn How To Build
$15 / hr / station

Your first class is for hand-building your piece. One piece. Each potter receives up to 2 lbs of low fire white clay.

Bring a friend for an extra $5! You can have up to 2 people per station if you are in the same bubble.

Step 2: Glazing Your Clay
$15 / hr / station

Your second class is for glazing. Each potter receives access to underglazes, overglaze, and tools. Please book glazing with 2 weeks of your original date as we cannot store artwork longer than this due to storage constraints.

Are You A bit Chatty?

You can totally finish each of the building/glazing classes within 1 hour BUT if you want to chat lots, drink a coffee/tea/hot chocolate, or generally take your time, we recommend booking more time than 1 hr. Please be realistic in how much time you book.

Independent Practice
$15/ hr / station

So now that you know what you are doing, you can sign up for an independent—Building OR Glazing Animals are our Friends Bowl creating time. YAY!

Bring a friend for an extra $5! You can have up to 2 people per station if you are in the same bubble.

• For “bring a friend” independent time, your friend needs to have taken the building & glazing class.
• For ages 6 to adult.
• Ages 6 to 12 must be accompanied by a registered adult.

Let’s understand each other & be happy. Make sure to read all the policies.

• We want art to become a part of everyone's life so our classes are affordable!  $15/hour/station/per visit without.

• We will not have space for observers/helpers. Each person attending must be registered (i.e. parent and child are both registered). No exceptions.
• During the drop-in time, you can either make OR glaze a previous creation.
• Even if you have pottery experience please sign up for a class time before a drop-in time. Please respect this rule for your fellow participants. If you only book drop-in, you will not be permitted and will not be refunded or credited.
• Drop-in means you are self-led, there is no instructor that will be leading the class. There will be staff present for quick questions.
• If you go over your pre-booked time, you will be charged for another full hour. No exceptions so please be realistic in how much time you book based on how long it took you to make 1 bowl.

• All pieces at any stage will of making will be kept in the studio for a maximum of 2 weeks. For example, If you build a piece ad don’t book glazing time within 2 weeks we will not be able to store your piece. We are not able to call or email reminders. After 2 weeks, please assume it is has been either recycled or tossed.
• Children must be supervised at all times and cannot be left in the retail area alone please or be left unattended at any time.

Sometimes things happen …

• Sometimes clay breaks, it just does—pieces fall off
• Sometimes things move in the kiln and there may be a mark on your piece
• Sometimes glaze doesn’t behave as expected
• Sometimes art takes more time than you may think, we time things as well as we can
• Sometimes instructors get ill, and we need to run with less staff than planned
• Sometimes it takes a while to find the information from a gift card from many years ago
• A child will cry, be loud or not listen. They do that. They are all good. Parents are trying their best
• You will need to follow the templates and sizing, too big means more kiln or storage space, too small means likely to get lost
• If you don’t write your first and last name and the date clearly on your piece, expect for it to get lost or mistakenly picked up by another with the same name
• Adults—The workshops are for fun and social time. It is not a replacement for art school.
• Sometimes we have to throw out art if it is not picked up within 2 weeks
• Sometimes it may take a minute or two to find your art piece
• Sometimes there are mixups
• Sometimes your name may get covered in the firing process
• We will fire things in the kiln as quickly as we possibly can. We need a full load to run the kiln and sometimes things need to dry extra time before they can be placed in the kiln or they will explode
• Sometimes clay explodes
• We are not Walmart with unlimited resources, art supply costs are really high, rent is high, shipping is high, overhead is high, we may be able to offer a credit in some cases like clay breakage, but if you miss your workshop or call 10 mins before to cancel, the space was still set aside for you and we cannot offer a refund or credit.
• You will need to make just the maximum number of pieces when we specify
• If you overwork the clay or add too much water it will cave in or crack. Follow the time guidelines and instructions as best you can.
• If you have never done art before, you will need to practice and accept it won’t be perfect on your first try. Come back many times, practice and enjoy the process.
• If you are late, yes, it will feel like there was not enough time.
• We cannot answer the phone and it is not financially feasible to have an admin person. We have the phone for emergencies. Please use the chat on our website. We check this as often as possible. Please don’t send a chat and an email. We promise we will get back to you.
• Please don’t call/chat/email to see if your art is ready for pick up—it is all in the art status page on the website—we promise! We really need to be present for the guests in the studio.
• You will absolutely need to wear a mask when not at your station or when purchasing kits or supplies in the studio. Let’s all stay healthy.
